A multi-million dollar upgrade to the Geraldton Basketball Stadium has been officially unveiled today by Premier Mark McGowan and Sports Minister David Templeman.

The major upgrade was an election commitment and part of the State Government's Plan for Geraldton. It was jointly funded by the State Government — which invested $3.5 million — and the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), which provided $1.05 million.

Additions to the facility include four new indoor courts for the GABA, helping to provide more sporting opportunities and grow participation in basketball for people in the Mid West.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Premier McGowan and Minister Templeman at the stadium today, marking the successful completion of this significant community infrastructure project.

The GABA currently has more than 2300 members and operates a high-standard junior and senior competition as well as hosting the Buccaneers State Basketball League team.

It also operates several programs to support the diverse needs of the community including Aussie Hoops, Midnight Basketball Program for Indigenous youth, and the Wheelchair Competition.
