No change to local government election date

Aug 30, 2023, 14:03 PM

The Western Australian Electoral Commission has confirmed that the Voice to Parliament referendum on 14 October 2023 will not affect the date of local government elections.

Local government elections will be held in Western Australia on 21 October 2023, as planned.

A date change is not required to accommodate the Voice to Parliament referendum and all timelines for WA’s local government elections remain unchanged. Candidate nominations will open tomorrow and close at 4pm, Thursday 7 September. The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) encourages all Western Australians to vote so they can have a say in issues affecting their local community.
