How Camp Quaranup powers Murdoch University’s groundbreaking ecology camp

When 80 Murdoch University students arrive at Camp Quaranup, the atmosphere shifts. This former quarantine station has become a vibrant hub for outdoor education, research, and community programs.

Murdoch University has long recognised Camp Quaranup as the ideal setting for its ecology camp, a place where students don’t just study nature, they experience it. The camp’s unique blend of heritage, environment, and purpose transforms it into a living laboratory for real-world learning.

During the camp, students immerse themselves in hands-on research. They catch fish, hike through rain, and collect data not for grades, but to protect threatened species and understand ecosystems. A simple question from a researcher, "Why is this species here, now?” sparks curiosity and connection. For many, it’s a transformative experience that ignites purpose and belonging.

Murdoch’s ecology camp is just one example of how Camp Quaranup supports meaningful learning. The site is available for hire to host school, community, and corporate groups.

Camp Quaranup offers heritage accommodation for up to 148 people, along with a range of land and water based adventure programs. Each year, it welcomes diverse programs that foster education, environmental stewardship, and community connection. It’s a shining example of how heritage sites can be repurposed for modern impact.
