Intro
The WA Government has announced the establishment of the new Creative Industries Action Plan and Creative Industries Taskforce, designed to guide the growth of Western Australia’s creative industries and strengthen their contribution to the State’s economic diversification agenda.
The Creative Industries Action Plan is a key deliverable under Creative WA, the WA Government’s 10-year vision for culture, the arts and creativity, and will deliver creative industries outcomes under Diversify WA, the State’s economic diversification strategy.
The action plan will set out a coordinated approach to supporting economic growth across the creative industries, including:
To oversee development of the plan, a Creative Industries Taskforce will be established, bringing together leaders from across the State’s diverse creative sectors, spanning screen, music, design, performance, digital innovation and First Nations arts.
The taskforce will act as champions for the action plan and engage closely with government, industry and education to ensure it reflects the sector’s needs and opportunities. Members will be consulted throughout the development of the plan, ensuring the needs, opportunities and ambitions of WA’s creative community are understood and met.
The development of the Creative Industries Action Plan builds on the WA Government’s continued investment into the State’s creative sector, with the delivery of major projects such as the Perth Film Studios, the landmark Aboriginal Cultural Centre, and the revitalised Perth Cultural Centre ensuring WA’s creatives have world-class spaces, pathways and platforms to thrive.
Following completion of the taskforce’s work, a cross-government working group will be established to guide the plan’s implementation, ensuring alignment across key government agencies and with industry representative bodies.
