The Dog Amendment Act 2013 and Cat Act 2011 commenced five years ago. Both Acts are being reviewed to see how effective the changes have been in the control and management of cats and dogs in Western Australia.
The department released a consultation paper to gather feedback from the community, local governments and stakeholders about how the 2013 changes are working, whether they have been effective, and to identify any areas that could be improved.
Community and stakeholder feedback is essential to provide well-informed feedback on the impact of the changes across the broader community, industry and government sector.
Feedback on the cat and dog laws was sought between 12 May 2019 and 4 August 2019.
The feedback gathered from the consultation will be analysed and presented to the Minister for Local Government. The report will then be tabled in Parliament later this year.
The report will be available on Parliament’s website.
