Local governments are reminded to submit their Compliance Audit Returns (CAR) for the period between 1 January and 31 December 2018 via Smart Hub.
Access to Smart Hub will be available from 2 January 2019 and your CAR must be submitted by 31 March 2019.
CAR 2018 continues in a reduced format with questions focused on high risk areas of compliance and statutory reporting as prescribed in regulation 13 of the Local Government (Audit) Regulations 1996.
There are also seven optional questions seeking your input about Integrated Planning and Reporting and two optional questions relating to regulation 17 of the Local Government (Audit) Regulations 1996.
Please note that audit committees are required to review the completed CAR and report the results to council, prior to the CAR's adoption by council and submission to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Any reporting of non-compliance in CAR 2018 should be a reminder for local government officers to engage with elected members via your audit committee to provide council with a plan and timeframe within which to address non-compliance.
A checklist to assist with completion of the online form and lodgement of documents is available on the department's website.
