Minister for Local Government’s Place Innovation Awards

The Minister for Local Government’s Place Innovation Awards are designed to recognise and promote innovative place-related projects, policies and activities involving local governments in Western Australia.

2024 Awards

Nominations for this year’s Minister for Local Government’s Place Innovation Awards are now open.

Now in their second year, the awards showcase the best in place-based innovation by WA’s local governments across 3 categories:

  • metropolitan Perth and Peel
  • regional
  • outstanding achievement (either metropolitan Perth, Peel or regional initiatives).

Projects should demonstrate one or more of the following criteria:

  • an innovative approach to a place-based opportunity or challenge
  • significant improvements to standard practices
  • a high level of collaboration, including with external stakeholders.

Eligibility

  • Nominations must be from WA local governments.
  • The nominated place innovation project must have been completed within the last 12 months.

Nominations can be submitted online now on the Town Team Movement website.

Nominations close at 5pm on 16 August 2024.

2023 Awards

The 2023 awards were presented during the annual WA Local Government Association (WALGA) Local Futures Convention and the 2023 winners in the three award categories were:

  • Outstanding Achievement: City of Kwinana — Wellard Village 7 Day Makeover
  • Metropolitan Perth and Peel: City of Mandurah — Community Initiated Infrastructure Policy
  • Regional Western Australia: Shire of Pingelly — Pingelly Pocket/Gnalla Wangkiny Park.
