Intro

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is pleased to announce the delivery of the Building Better Boards program.

The Building Better Boards program will be delivered by the highly credentialed Diane Smith-Gander AO with an aim to improve the knowledge and skills of individuals to govern and identify risk within their organisation.

The format will be 2 x 2 hour in person workshops, with a pre-requisite that all participants must complete the Australian Sports Commission free online course The Start Line – Sport Governance Foundations course (60-90 mins completion time). Evidence of completion of the online course will be required prior to the commencement of the workshops.

Participants will be allocated to a cohort relevant to their organisation’s size and an individual’s personal experience. Each cohort will be a maximum of 10 people to enable discussion and learnings from shared experiences.

On confirmation of acceptance to the program each participant will be advised which cohort they have been allocated to by DLGSC.

Below are the dates of the workshops:

  • Cohort 1: 2:00pm – 4:00pm Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 June
  • Cohort 2: 6:00pm – 8:00pm Wednesday 29 May and Wednesday 5 June
  • Cohort 3: 6:00pm – 8:00pm Monday 27 May and Tuesday 4 June

Content will include:

  • Business case for good governance by diverse boards
  • Challenges presented from the volunteer nature of sports governance
  • Identifying and managing conflicts of interest
  • Appropriate Code of Conduct for directors
  • Adopting good decision-making models
