Community Grants Program

Providing funding to empower culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities in Western Australia to design, deliver and partner on projects that address their needs.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) offers grant funding through its Community Grants Program (CGP) with a total annual budget of $1,000,000.

The program supports CaLD community-led activities that:

  • celebrate and promote WA's cultural diversity
  • build the capacity of individuals, families and communities to contribute to the civic and economic life of the State
  • improve the accessibility and effectiveness of services.

Harmony Week grants

Funding of $2000 is available for diversity and inclusion activities to celebrate Harmony Week 2021.

Activities with a focus on culture and arts and sport and active recreation are encouraged.

Culture and arts activities must involve a professional artist or arts practitioner working with the community to design and deliver the activity.

Sport and active recreation activities must involve the community participating in a primary activity requiring physical exertion and/or physical skill.

KidSport enables Western Australian children to participate in community sport and recreation.

KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5 to 18 years to participate in community sport by offering them financial assistance of up to $150 per calendar year towards club fees. In 2021, all eligible children will be able to access two KidSport vouchers with the second becoming available from 1 July 2021.

Targeted Participation Program

The Targeted Participation Program (TPP) provides funding for organisations to promote participation and active engagement of Western Australian communities in sport and active recreation.

The focus is on evidence-based low participation groups. The targeted populations are:

  • disengaged youth
  • Aboriginal
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD)
  • people with disability
  • seniors (60+)
  • insufficiently active
  • adolescent girls (12 to 17)
  • low socio-economic.
The department and Healthway are seeking applications for co-designed projects that create quality, affordable sport and active recreation opportunities with a focus on engaging low participation groups.

Projects are required to increase participation in physical activity and ensure participation pathways into community sport or active recreation either by:

  • piloting an innovative targeted concept; or 
  • expanding an evidence-based program.
