Reducing alcohol-related harm and ill-health in communities by restricting access to takeaway alcohol.
The effects of alcohol misuse are often felt by the most vulnerable in our community, such as children and families through abuse, neglect or even subject to family violence. The BDR is an important government initiative to help reduce alcohol-related harm by supporting individuals impacted by harmful alcohol consumption more effectively and restricting their access to packaged liquor.
The BDR is a register of people prohibited from purchasing and possessing packaged (takeaway) liquor in Western Australia. The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is responsible for implementing and managing the BDR on behalf of the State Government.
The BDR has support from a wide range of stakeholders, including WA Police, local governments, health service providers, the liquor industry and the broader community.
All information held within the register is subject to the DLGSC’s information security and privacy protocols and will only be released under relevant provisions of the Liquor Control Act 1988 (the Act) or other relevant and applicable legislation.
