Low level of engagement with children and young people

Thank you for completing the Local Government Child Safety Self-assessment.

Based on your responses, your local government has been identified as having a low level of engagement with children and young people in your services and operations. 

Your answers indicate that your local government engages in incidental interactions with children and young people predominately in the presence of parents, carers or guardians. It is important to consider that as you engage in incidental contact with children and young people, an important aspect of your approach for implementation of child safe reforms relies on raising awareness of child safety and wellbeing in your community and referring organisations that operate in your area to appropriate resources when requested. 

At the conclusion of the self-assessment, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries will use the results received to develop tailored support for the local governments identified in each level of child engagement. This may include:

  • document templates
  • training resources
  • webinars, forums and events.
