This year, National Volunteer Week is centred around the theme ‘Connecting Communities’.

For DLGSC, it is an opportunity to connect and celebrate our diverse volunteers and the vital work they do in bringing people together.

At the heart of DLGSC’s work are Western Australia’s community sport, recreation, arts and culture sectors.

From junior football coaches to half-time oranges, art gallery guides and museum way-finders — these sectors would not be able to run without the selfless time our volunteers contribute.

There are many ways to take part in National Volunteer Week and share the message that volunteering is at the heart of communities.

Thinking about volunteering?

Volunteer snapshot:

  • 1.5 million individuals dedicate their time to volunteering in Western Australia.
  • WA volunteers contribute 398.7 million hours of time and create $63.9 billion in economic value, every year.
  • Approximately 16% of WA’s volunteers are sport volunteers.
  • In 2023, WA’s funded arts organisations recorded a total of 28, 485 volunteer hours from 929 volunteers.
  • DLGSC provides resources and supports events and programs that celebrate and recognise volunteers including the Mike Stidwell Medal.
