Intro
The competition set the stage for Australian athletes to perform on home ice before an international judging panel.
Vice President Western Australian Figure Skating Club Alana Davis said the event is a fantastic opportunity for WA skaters to gain exposure without the financial burden of overseas travel.
“This event is incredibly important for our skaters, it’s not just about competition, it’s about inclusion, opportunity and pride,” she said.
“Our athletes train year-round, often balancing school and work and to see them compete alongside full-time international skaters is a testament to their dedication.”
The WA Government has supported the Swan Trophy with a $50,000 grant via the Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program.
“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the contribution from the WA Government,” Ms Davis said.
“Running an international competition is incredibly expensive and this support gives our skaters the chance to shine on home ice."
“We also wouldn’t be able to do this without our volunteers; they’re the backbone of our sport.”
