Proof of Age

People under 18 cannot buy alcohol on or off licensed premises.

 

It is also illegal to buy alcohol for anyone under 18 or supply them alcohol on licensed or regulated premises.

Acceptable ID for Proof of Age 

Licensees can request the following documents as proof of age if they reasonably suspect someone seeking entry may be under 18:

  • A current Australian driver’s licence with a photo. This includes digital licence from: 
    • New South Wales
    • South Australia
    • Queensland
    • Victoria 
  • A current passport
  • A current WA Photo Card
  • Proof of Age photo card or equivalent issued in an Australian state or territory
  • A current Australian learner driver’s permit with photo
  • WA Proof of Age Card (note: new cards stopped being issued on 1 January 2015)
  • A hard copy Keypass issued by Australia Post (note: Keypass is being discontinued after April 2026, however the physical cards can be used until their expiry date)

ID can be shown in hard copy or in its original digital form if issued digitally (unless stated otherwise). 

Photos or screenshots of physical ID are not accepted.
