Gambling Harm Awareness Week

Gambling Harm Awareness Week is held each year across Australia to help people understand the risks of gambling and where to get support. It’s a chance to talk openly about gambling harm, learn how to make safer choices, and find out what help is available for individuals, families and communities.

In Western Australia, the theme for Gambling Harm Awareness Week 2025 is: Beware of chasing the unicorn bet

The message is simple: don’t chase the impossible win. The campaign encourages people to cap their losses and recognise when gambling is no longer safe. Knowing when to stop can protect your wellbeing, your relationships and your finances.

What to expect during the week

Throughout the week, we’ll share resources and stories that:

  • Raise awareness of the signs of gambling harm — like spending more time or money than planned, or borrowing money to gamble
  • Promote support services that offer free and confidential help to anyone adversely affected by their own gambling — or gambling by someone they care about
  • Encourage self-reflection and open conversations, especially with young people, about the risks and how to make safer choices.

Gambling Harm Awareness Week is a reminder that help is available — and that talking about gambling harm can make a real difference.
