Declaration of office

  • If you are elected to council, the first duty you will have to perform will be the signing of a declaration of office.
  • This is a formal acknowledgement of your commitment to the local government and the people of your district for the term of your office.

Remuneration

  • The WA Salaries and Allowances Tribunal remunerates council members based on the ‘band’ allocated to your local government. You can visit the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal website for more information.
  • Each council determines if council members are remunerated on a per-meeting basis or by annual allowance.
  • Mayors, presidents, deputy mayors and deputy presidents may receive additional remuneration in recognition of the roles and responsibilities that they fulfill.
  • Council members may be reimbursed for particular expenses associated with their role such as travel and childcare expenses.
