One week until nominations for local government elections open

Aug 26, 2021, 08:57 AM by Geoff White
With nominations for the upcoming local government elections opening in one week, community members are encouraged to start thinking about standing for their council.
  • Nominations for local government elections open on 2 September and close on 9 September.
  • Community members are encouraged to consider nominating.
  • Anyone intending to nominate will need to complete a free online inductions course provided by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries.

Local Government Minister John Carey said people from diverse backgrounds, in particular, should talk to family and friends about the possibility of putting their hand up and nominating.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) launched the 'Vocal Local' campaign in August this year, in partnership with the WA Local Government Association, WA Electoral Commission and Local Government Professionals WA.

The campaign encourages people who may not otherwise consider standing for council, to think about the contribution they could make to their local community.

Local government elections take place every two years.

Anyone intending to nominate for election must first complete a free online induction course, provided by DLGSC.

Nominations close on Thursday 9 September at 4pm.
