Plan on a Page to the local government sector

Nov 16, 2021, 11:17 AM by Geoff White
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has launched its Plan on a Page to the local government sector.

Executive Director Local Government Tim Fraser said the plan would set the direction of the local government team in the short, medium and long term.

It features three strategic priorities, which are supported by 22 actions:

  1. Deliver a streamlined and contemporary Legislative framework by reforming the Local Government Act and other relevant legislation.
  2. Develop the supporting environment and provide local governments with the tools to build a transparent, robust and innovative sector.
  3. Deliver on our current commitments of existing projects and programs of reform.

Short term actions include finalisation of reforms and implementation of the new legislation for a centralised system of cat and dog registration, and the delivery of the State Government's election commitments.

The plan was developed following workshops with local government, DLGSC and sector representatives.
