Changes to online gambling harm advertising

Apr 9, 2025, 09:20 AM by User Not Found
In line with the Australian government's National Consumer Protection Framework (NCPF) for Online Wagering, the Gaming and Wagering Commission (GWC) has changed the messages online bookmakers must use to inform consumers about the potential harms associated with gambling.

New messaging includes taglines such as “Chances are you’re about to lose.” and “What are you really gambling with?” and operators will need put this on all of their gambling advertising, including television and social media.

Notice of the change with the specific requirements has been published on DLGSC’s website and interactive wagering services need to update their messaging in accordance with the Consistent Gambling Messaging Notice 2025.

This new framework represents a significant step towards ensuring safer online betting practices and protecting Australian consumers from the potential harms of gambling.
